AUI to receive the CDBG Award on April 1, 2008.

Each spring communities throughout the nation celebrate National Community Development Week and the accomplishments of the national Community Development Block Grant program (CDBG).

The program was established by Congress in 1974 for the purpose of developing viable urban communities by providing decent housing, a suitable living environment, and economic opportunities principally for persons of low and moderate income. It is the premiere development tool for neighborhood revitalization and for addressing other critical community needs. This year marks the 34th Anniversary of the program.

Phoenix observes CDBG week through the presentation of awards to individuals or agencies that have used CDBG funds in an exemplary manner and made significant contributions to community development and neighborhood revitalization in Phoenix.
